Why this matters

An electric kettle is a heating element sitting directly in water with a thermostat deciding when to stop. On Bangalore water, that element scales quickly, and scale changes how the kettle behaves in a way that is easy to misread. A coated element transfers heat into the limescale rather than the water, so the metal runs hotter than designed while the water takes longer to boil.

The consequence is the most common complaint we see: a kettle that switches off before the water has boiled. People assume the thermostat has failed. Usually the thermostat is working perfectly and is doing exactly what it should, tripping on element temperature that scale has driven up early. Descaling fixes it. Replacing the thermostat would not have.

The failures that genuinely matter are electrical. The base connector carries the full current through a set of sprung contact pins, and those pins pit and burn where the kettle is dropped onto the base rather than set down. A kettle that only heats when you press it into the base, or that has ever tripped the MCB, should be looked at rather than persevered with. Water and mains current in the same enclosure is not a fault to live with.

Electric Kettle Service — frequently asked questions

The questions our Bengaluru customers ask most.

How much does electric kettle repair cost in Bangalore?

Kettle service starts at ₹139. Descaling is included in the standard service; a replacement thermostat, base or cord is quoted separately before it is fitted.

Why does my kettle switch off before the water boils?

Nearly always limescale on the element. The coating traps heat against the metal, so the safety thermostat trips on element temperature long before the water is hot. Descaling normally resolves it without replacing anything.

How often should a kettle be descaled in Bangalore?

Every one to three months, depending on how hard your building supply is and how often you use it. Regular descaling is the main thing that keeps a kettle working and safe.

My kettle gives a slight shock or trips the MCB. What should I do?

Stop using it and unplug it. That pattern usually means the heating element is leaking current to earth, which is a genuine electrical hazard rather than an inconvenience. Book it and we will test the element and the earth path directly.

Is a leaking kettle repairable?

Often yes, where the leak is at a seal or the level window rather than a cracked body. The technician confirms the source before quoting, and will say if the body itself has failed.

Is a cheap kettle worth repairing at all?

Sometimes not, and we will say so. On an entry-level kettle a new base or element can approach the price of a replacement. Descaling and a thermostat or lid-switch repair are almost always worth it; a failed element on a low-cost model often is not, and the technician tells you before quoting.

What is the white residue floating in my kettle water?

Limescale flaking off the element and the inner wall, which is normal on Bengaluru water and not harmful, though it means the kettle is overdue for descaling. Scale is also what makes a kettle cut out before boiling, so clearing it usually fixes two complaints at once.

My kettle boils but the water tastes metallic. What causes that?

Usually heavy scale combined with a stainless element that is running hotter than designed because of it. Descaling normally clears the taste. If it persists after a proper descale, the element is degrading and should be checked.

Do you repair glass and stainless steel kettles both?

Yes, along with plastic-body and double-wall kettles. On glass models a cracked body cannot be repaired safely and the technician will tell you that rather than seal it, but bases, switches, lids and elements are all replaceable.

Can you repair the base unit rather than the kettle itself?

Yes, and this is a frequent fault. The base carries the full current through sprung contact pins that pit and burn where the kettle is dropped onto it rather than set down. A kettle that only heats when pressed into the base needs that base replaced, not the kettle.
