Why this matters
Microwaves fail in a small number of well-understood ways, and telling them apart before opening the unit saves everybody time. If the oven runs, lights up and turns but food stays cold, the fault is in the high-voltage side — magnetron, diode, capacitor or transformer. If nothing happens at all when you press start, it is far more likely a door interlock switch, which is a cheap part that fails often because it operates every single time the door closes.
The door interlocks deserve particular respect. They exist to guarantee the magnetron cannot energise with the door open, and a microwave with a damaged door, a bent hinge or a compromised seal should be taken out of use rather than run until it is convenient to fix. The same applies to the waveguide cover — the small mica panel inside the cavity. If it is charred or burnt through, arcing follows, and that damages the magnetron.
A note on economics: the magnetron is the expensive part, and on an entry-level solo microwave a magnetron replacement can approach the cost of a new unit. The technician will tell you when that is the case rather than quietly quoting for it. On convection and higher-capacity models, repair is almost always the better call.

My microwave runs but does not heat. What is wrong?
That points to the high-voltage section — most often the magnetron, but sometimes the diode, capacitor or transformer. It needs on-site diagnosis, because replacing the magnetron when the diode is at fault is an expensive mistake.
There is sparking inside my microwave. What should I do?
Stop using it. The usual causes are a charred waveguide cover, metal or foil inside the cavity, or damaged cavity paint. Continuing to run it while it arcs will damage the magnetron, which is the costly part.
Is it worth repairing a microwave or should I replace it?
Door switches, turntable motors, control panels and convection elements are almost always worth repairing. A magnetron replacement on an entry-level solo microwave can approach the price of a new unit, and the technician will say so plainly rather than quoting for it regardless.
Do you repair convection and grill microwaves?
Yes — solo, grill and convection models are all covered, including convection heating elements and grill assemblies.
Is a microwave safe to repair at home?
It is safe for a trained technician and genuinely dangerous otherwise. The high-voltage capacitor inside holds a lethal charge even after the oven is unplugged, which is why we supply internal microwave parts for technician fitting only and will not sell them for self-installation.
My microwave turns on but the plate does not rotate. What is that?
Usually the turntable motor or the drive coupler under the glass plate, both inexpensive and routinely replaced. Check first that the coupler is seated and the roller ring is not obstructed, since food debris under the plate causes the same symptom.
The door does not shut properly. Can that be fixed?
Yes, and it should not be used until it is. The door interlocks exist to stop the magnetron energising with the door open, and a damaged latch, hinge or interlock switch is a safety fault rather than an inconvenience. Latches and interlocks are stocked for most models.
Do you repair built-in and over-the-range microwaves?
Yes, including built-in trim-kit models and OTG-style combination ovens. Built-in units take longer because the oven has to be drawn out of the cabinet safely, so mention the installation type when you book.
Can I buy microwave parts without booking a repair?
Turntable plates, roller rings and drive couplers are cavity parts and can be bought on their own, delivered free inside our Bengaluru coverage. Order plates by diameter and couplers by the shape of the drive, because manufacturers reuse both across very different models.
