Can I crush ice in a nutri blender without damaging it?

The jar is cloudy and scratched. Does that matter?
Cosmetically no, structurally sometimes. Deep scratching in a sealed jar weakens it, and a jar that has been run with a failing blade bearing often has stress marks around the base. Replacement jars are available for most models.
My blender smells hot after one smoothie. Is that normal?
No. A brief warm smell on a heavy load can happen, but a hot smell after a short normal run means the motor is not shedding heat properly — usually a blocked vent, a failing bearing, or a blade assembly dragging. It should be checked rather than worked around, because the thermal cut-out will not protect it indefinitely.
